Founded by Dr. Thamina (Samina) Anwar, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IqraPress, the charitable trust was established to revive the rich Islamic tradition of preserving and disseminating beneficial knowledge. Through a sustainable waqf-based publishing model, IqraPress seeks to support authors, scholars, researchers, educators, and lifelong learners while building a lasting legacy that benefits present and future generations.

Our purpose extends far beyond publishing books. Our Unique Waqf Publishing Model

Iqra Press is more than a publishing house—it is a pioneering waqf-based Islamic publishing platform that reimagines the relationship between publishing, philanthropy, and sustainable social impact.

Unlike traditional publishers, Iqra Press enables authors to transform their books into a perpetual investment for the Hereafter. Authors have the opportunity to dedicate all or a portion of the proceeds from the sale of their books to the Iqra Press Waqf, allowing their publications to become an ongoing source of ṣadaqah jāriyah. As readers continue to benefit from their work, authors continue to receive reward, by the permission of Allah (SWT).

This unique model allows every published work to become far more than a book. It becomes an enduring legacy of beneficial knowledge that continues to educate minds, inspire hearts, and transform lives long after the author has passed away.

How the Waqf Works

Funds donated to the Iqra Press Waqf become part of a perpetual endowment, where the capital is preserved for future generations. The Mutawallis (Trustees) have a fiduciary responsibility to safeguard these funds by investing them in rigorously screened Shariah-compliant investments, including Islamic social enterprises and other ethical investment mechanisms.

The primary objective is to preserve the donated capital while generating sustainable returns that can be used to fulfil the charitable purposes of the waqf. This approach ensures that every donation has the potential to create continuous benefit rather than being spent only once.

The income generated from these investments supports a wide range of charitable and educational initiatives, including:

• Publishing authentic Islamic books and educational resources.
• Research and scholarly publications.
• Digital libraries and educational technology.
• Podcasts, webinars, and online learning programmes.
• Scholarships and educational grants.
• Community education and leadership development.
• Poverty alleviation initiatives.
• Support for orphans, widows, and vulnerable families.
• Clean water projects.
• Artisan skills training and economic empowerment programmes.
• Other charitable initiatives that advance the objectives of the waqf.

Authors are also welcome to express a preference for the categories of beneficiaries or charitable causes they would like their contribution to support. Wherever possible, the Mutawallis will seek to honour those preferences while ensuring that all distributions remain consistent with the Trust Deed, the objectives of the waqf, and their fiduciary responsibilities. Investing in the Hereafter

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that when a person dies, all of their deeds come to an end except three: ongoing charity (ṣadaqah jāriyah), beneficial knowledge from which people continue to benefit, and a righteous child who prays for them.

Iqra Press uniquely combines two of these enduring sources of reward. Every publication contributes to the dissemination of beneficial knowledge (ʿilm nāfiʿ), while authors and supporters may also choose to dedicate proceeds to the waqf, creating an ongoing charitable endowment that continues to generate benefit for generations.

In this way, a single book has the potential to educate readers, support communities, and become a perpetual source of reward in the Hereafter.
